This is one of Australia’s first Accredited Barista Courses that is run by a Specialty Coffee roaster.  At Black Market Coffee we roast and supply coffee to some of Sydney best espresso bars and also operate three of our own.

This course is up-to-date with industry standards and our trainers are specialty baristas who have many years experience working in high volume specialty coffee.  The equipment in our state of the art training room is reflective of the current equipment you will find in a specialty coffee bar in Australia.

WHO IS THIS COURSE FOR?

This course is designed for people who are interested in getting a job as a Barista.  It is suitable for people who have no previous experience making coffee or in the hospitality industry. Also for those who are currently working in coffee but have had no formal training and want to lift their game.

This course is for those who want to take their coffee seriously and it will equip you with all the knowledge you need to make excellent coffee to the Australian standard.

Note: National Accreditation is only available for Australian Citizens or Residents, however non-residents and citizens are welcome and will receive a certificate of attendance upon completion.

COURSE OUTLINE

5 hours  – Online content that you will work through at your own pace.  It includes all the knowledge you need to make amazing coffee.  Instructional videos, interactive content and tips from our professional Baristas.

There are 6 Modules which are completed online;

  • Intro to coffee
  • Seed to cup
  • Latte art
  • Working with recipes
  • High volume barista
  • Hygienic practices for food safety

6 hours – Practical skills in our state of the art training facility in Marrickville

  • Dose, tamp, extraction technique
  • Working with scales and adjusting the grind
  • Using and understanding recipes
  • Spinning milk
  • Coffee variations (flat-white, latte, cappuccino, mocha, long-black, piccolo, macchiato)
  • Latte art
  • Setting up & closing down the machine
  • Advising customers and taking orders

After successful completion of the course, the student will receive two Statement of Attainment in Hospitality:

  • Prepare and serve espresso coffee (SITHFAB025)
  • Use hygienic practices for food safety (SITXFSA005)

LOCATION

Our new location is 24 Cadogan Street, Marrickville.

Please note: This is an industrial area and parking can be difficult to find, we recommend taking public transport if possible. Sydenham Station is a short 5 minute walk to our warehouse.
