COFFEE OF THE MONTH: MARCH

BURUNDI MAGEYO – AWAKA PROJECT

Burundi is one of my favourite origins! So I’m pretty excited about this coffee landing in our warehouse and look forward to the aromas complex flavours over the next 4 weeks.

This small washing station may be small but it produces coffee with some big flavours!  The cup profile is intensely floral, with black tea, white peach, nectarine and red berries, and lots frequently score 87+ points.

I’ll be drinking this as a mid-black and enjoying lots of filter brews with it!

This coffee is from the Mageyo washing station in Burundi and is part of the Akawa project, a joint venture between Condesa and Supremo, created to help producers escape the cycle of poverty in a sustainable and equitable way.  The washing station is surrounded by fruit trees, free roaming chickens, and is located in between two rivers. The fruit trees help the farmers to supplement their income between coffee harvests and leaves from the bananas trees provide some amazing organic mulch for the crops.
